This is one of the PHP Legacy sites I spent much of my time working on at LuxuryRealEstate.com. I sculpted out many new pages for the Client on this site. I always loved doing work on this site, even though I was not with the company during its creation. It's a unique layout, and I am proud to say I helped create a few sections of the site post-launch.

Eventually, I hope to do mostly photography, wedding and family/baby websites. I happen to love taking pictures, which has been most recently my daughter, and not much of anything else. I love how artistic you can get with a personal site like this and really set the mood for whatever the client is looking for. Between the photos and the design they are showcased in, you can really capture an audience, and invoke any emotion you wish. I wanted to experiment with a darker color with this site, and this was my first time using these colors, and I am really happy with the outcome.

With this design I wanted to make my livejournal layout less... livejournal. I wanted to showcase my free layouts, use something that hadn't been done in a livejournal layout, and really make it look gorgeous. I'm not the biggest fan of the load time, but that used to be an unfortunate thing we had to deal with when designing for Livejournal. I was the first LJ designer to use Eric Meyer's CSS pop-up method in LiveJournal. It's not quite the same method, but for the most part it's the same idea. I am recognized at livejournal.com as one of the "Pioneer" Designers, and have several tutorials referencing my early work. I also won several awards in design/layout contests.

This project was a lot of fun. Tiffany, The Cookie Chef, had seen some of my design work for LiveJournal.com, and emailed me asking if I could design and develop a site that she could easily manage, including photos of her cookies, testimonials and blogging. She was so happy with the design, she signed off on the very first comp. She has not yet had time to update it, although I keep encouraging her to write in her blog!

Cornerstone Properties & Investments

Front-End Developer (1 of 2)
www.thefloridaauthority.com
I was the secondary Front-End Developer on this project, at LuxuryRealEstate.com. This was my first experience using the HAML and SASS, to compile XTML and CSS. I styled many of the pages, there are a few I am particularly proud of, because after the pages were complete, the designers told me that they could hardly tell the difference between their comps and the page I developed. This was the second project I worked on in Ruby on Rails, and the second project presented to me as a team of Front-End Developers. I learned many important lessons developing with my co-FED, and how to our changes to the stylesheets affected each other's work. This site is very near deployment, and I am excited to see it in use by Cornerstone.

CSS Fine Art

Web Designer
For this site I wanted to bring together combinations of not only beautiful designs, but sites with awesome mark-up as well. Although I haven't had the time to do the mark-up on this site yet, I am excited to get it up and running within the next year, launching in late 2008.

Destination Weddings NW

Designer & Developer
www.destinationweddingsnw.com
This site was designed based on the company's existing brand identity. The old site was very outdated, and Heather wanted to bring an earthy elegance to represent her company. This site was developed in Ruby on Rails. Destination Weddings NW was recently featured on Evening Magazine, stating the website has been essential to a substantial growth in the company. This site features custom flash, ajax and a self-modified sifr helper for rails.

Lead Front-End Developer
www.ewingandclark.com
This is the first project I was put in the lead of at LuxuryRealEstate.com. It's shocking to me how much I have changed as a developer because of this site, and I can honestly see how much better I have become working in Ruby on Rails, developing HAML, as well as developing extremely large sites. This site is more like three sites in one, and has really three different layouts. Well, four, including the home page. I learned more about making dynamic mark-up in Ruby on Rails. One of the most frustrating things about this site is how articles are used. I had to overcome several challenges getting the comps to match, and still giving the client the flexibility of editing the articles without breaking their site. My style and level of front-end development has grown from beginning to near-end of this project, and I have restyled many of the things I did in the beginning based off of things I learned over the time I worked on this project as well as others.

This design features the use of Expression Engine to manage the contents. Although the final product isn't quite what I had envisioned for the company, I think many of my ideas are still present, and hey, it is for a good cause. I believe in doing everything the best we can for the Earth and our bodies.

I Love My Free Design

Web Designer/Developer

I wanted a place to keep all of my myspace and livejournal layouts so other people could use them when I registered this site. I have since decided to add a place where users could upload their own, and have their designs rated. With the design, I wanted to show that I could be more ornate and texturized with my graphics.

Lice Knowing You, Inc.

Website Design, Development, Marketing
www.liceknowingyou.com
Lice Knowing You, Inc.'s owner Nancy Gordon came to me armed with a few words. Whimsical, Witty and Character. These are the things she wanted to see in her company, Lice Knowing You, Incorporated's web site. She wanted to grab the attention of visitors, and entice them to learn more about her service. I had a bit of an agenda of my own with this site. Nancy was looking for a simple way to make updates to the site, and strong accessibility and search engine optimization techniques of development. Already well-versed in accessibility and SEO, I wanted to tackle it even more. Her site is completely accessible (disable the CSS and you will see), and I have implemented sIFR for viewing pleasure, which can be easily removed, and substituted with a web-safe font without the design being compromised. I am still what I consider new to Ruby on Rails framework, but I have now armed myself with a simple CMS plugin based on divs, haml and AJAX that I can proudly say I designed and built myself. This site was an amazing milestone for me in what I will be able to accomplish in the future, and how quickly and efficiently I can get it done. (I've listed the CMS as a separate portfolio piece). I also created letterhead, postcards and business cards.

Front-End Developer
www.livefeed.org
I was hired to develop the Front-End of the Venues and Bands section that was added recently. I impressed my client with a 2-day turn-around time, and changes that needed to be made were for Mac browsers, because of their wider fonts because of anti-aliasing.

Luxury Real Estate

Front-End Developer (1 of 5)
www.luxuryrealestate.com
This was the main focus of my job as a Front-End Developer at LuxuryRealEstate.com. I completed maintenance tasks for styling/restyling existing pages, updating information on existing pages, creating new sections on existing pages, as well as creating and styling new sections and areas of the site. It was somewhat of a challenge to work in this PHP site, as many front-end developers, some still with the company and some not.

Norris & Company

Front-End Developer (1 of 4)
www.norrisandcompany.com
Norris & Company's site is one of the many sites I worked on while working for LuxuryRealEstate.com. This was a project that was partially completed before I started with the company. It was the first project that I worked on with a team of Front-End Developers, including a few that were no longer with the company. I had to learn to adapt to another naming convention, as well as a whole different style of CSS and XHTML. This was also the first project I worked on using Ruby on Rails, as opposed to the PHP, ASP.NET and Static sites I was used to. My main task for this site was to clean-up the existing code, complete change requests from the client, and sculpt a few new pages. I also restyled some items, based on changes to the markup and the engine.

Porterville

Web Designer
This was the first design I did while attending school. We all were assigned the task to design a website for the Porterville Historical Museum in California. The goal was to give the Museum a design for their site, and they would pick from our class. My design was selected, but they have yet to launch a site at all four years after the fact. I still love the design though, even though I'm not sure I would keep the menu in that font, I'd probably spring for a web-safe font in its place. I remember being extremely irritated at myself having to cut each image for each menu item. I am still, to this day, impressed with the logo I gave them for the site. I used their images of their city and museum to create it, and several people asked me where I found the image.

Refresh Saint Louis

Web Designer/Developer
www.refreshstl.org
I am really passionate about improving the web, not only visually, but semantically and for accessibility as well. This site was originally intended to continue what another Developer, Lara Kramer, started, but we have since decided to merge the sites and our ideas, and will soon be launched, with all URL's going to the same location. I wanted this design to be more Web 2.0, and refreshing. The logo is the Saint Louis Arch, with the "recycle" arrow integrated in.

This is the company I have founded. Although I am still in search of some quality partners, the idea is still there. I am hoping to launch the site within the next year.

Web Designer / Developer
This is the Tableless, haml based content management system I have built for MySQL database driven websites programmed in Ruby on Rails. Once it is more stable, I plan on making it a plugin available through sourceforge. It's basic concept is this: Manage all content simply, and without navigating away from the client's site. I loved how at LuxuryRealEstate.com the Realty Master (admin interface), was within the chrome of the client's site. I think it is less confusing for the user/administrators to navigate that way. It brings a certain level of comfort and congruence. It's still in it's early stages, but beautiful and functional. I plan to continue to implement more features as I become more well-versed in the programming language I now love, Ruby!

Swan Packaging, Inc.

Front-End Developer
www.swanpackaginginc.com
This is a site I did the Front-End Development on with a firm I've been contracting with for quite a while, True Edge Consulting. For this site, I did all of the Front-End Mark-Up, and then it was converted into ASP.NET. I completed this project in a very small time window, and had very few issues in IE 6 on the first look at it in that browser.

The Diary of Superwoman

Web Designer/Developer
www.thediaryofsuperwoman.com
This is a blog I created for myself using the Free Version of Expression Engine. I chose to build my own templates and design, in the hopes to inspire single moms into believing that being two parents makes you a superhero. I'm still pretty happy with outcome, although, it's still kind of unfinished. I've closed many of my posts, because my ex, and the father of my daughter came across it and tore me down for posting my feelings on him and how he changed over the years on the internet. I still want to find a way to help and inspire single moms and dads, but I suppose I can find a way to do without making Alexis' dad feel like a schmuck.

Turnquist Partners, Realtors, Inc.

Front-End Developer (1 of 5)
www.turnquistpartners.com
This was another project I worked on at LuxuryRealEstate.com. My biggest tasks were to fix maintenance issues, and style new pages as requested by the client. I am pretty proud of the some of my work on this site, since I was not given a comp for a few popups and similar little additions. I was even told I was a "rockstar" since it wasn't really a part of my job, but I handled it anyway. This site presented a few challenges for me because the mark-up was not done in a way that I would have done it. It's rather humbling to realize that there is not a wrong or a right way, and that when you work in a team, whether the entire team is still working the project or not, you should never put down someone else's work, even if it's not what you would have done.

Universal Services Group, Direct

Front-End Developer / Web Designer
www.usgdirect.com
I had two tasks for this site. The first was the front-end development of the store-front, as displayed, using tables as requested by the client. Although I hadn't used tables in quite some time, I still managed to get the project finished in a short period of time. The second task was to design and develop the client's admin area, also using tables. I was told that the client thought my design was better than what they had asked for, which is always an awesome compliment.

Waterfront Properties & Club Communities

Front-End Developer (1 of 5)
www.waterfront-properties.com
This is a site I did work on at LuxuryRealEstate.com. My main tasks were to fix issues on the site, and to develop the front-end of new sections added to the site. This project involved working with multiple front-end development styles, and tried my patience on many occasions. I am still pretty happy with my part in this Ruby On Rails website, even through all of my frustration.
